About This little bird sat at our front door for the longest time, not moving at all when we walked past him. We were a little afraid he was knocked out of his nest over the porch during some heavy storms last night. He finally moved to a bench, where he sat for at least thirty minutes or more. Mama must have been nearby because the little bird disappeared when I went in to get a different lens.

Actual info was 1/8 seconds at f8, ISO 200, camera on a tripod. Natural indirect light on a covered porch.

It works, but I'm seeing it more in a portrait format (vertical) for some reason. Even as a square format composition would work. It's got a nice warmth to it.

This is lovely Mary Sue. What a special moment and a great photograph. I love the expression which seems to be on the little bird's face.

It is as if it were saying, "Life's a b***h, but what are you gonna do?"

Great to be back!

This one definitely brought a smile to my face! What a great expression! I don't mind the short DOF in this at all - it kind of adds intimacy to the composition. Love the bright yellow 'lips' :)

Reminds me of the famous portrait of Winston Yousuf Karsh?s 1941 picture of Winston Churchill (the one where he supposed stole the cigar from Churchill's mouth).

Very cool Mary Sue! Detail is great, and exposure is perfect.

I like the narrow DOF created. My only nit is the perfect focus appears to be slightly in front of the eye and behind the beak. (It actually looks like the focus point was under the curve in the beak. I would have used the eye as the focus point. and let the beak go a bit softer.

My personal preference only. Still a way cool shot!

Fantastic capture Mary Sue! You got him looking at the camera with the little glint in his eye and an amusing expression. He's just so cute! Love it. Cheers, Joanna

Great close up of this little guy..cool reflections in his eye..you can see the porch. Ashame you could not have achived a bit more DOF and had his beak in focus. Still, great image and story, hope he makes it.
