About Youve got to admit, thats cute :}
Apparently these guys use a stinger on their rear to defend themselves, rather than the huge jaws.
Wasnt about to test it out for you, sorry.
p.s cant get anymore DOF the lens only stops down to f16.

One of these little buggers bit me on the neck once and it hurt like crazy. I can see from your stunning detail just why it did. Excellent work.

Thanks Amy.
Its a common bull ant.
They are pretty well everywhere down here.
Its a very large ant 5-6cm in length.
The jaws can give you a nasty bite but the sting in the rear is much worse.
Not poisonous, which is rare for Australia, everything else is :)

Very cool picture!! Wish I could see the whole creature...now I'm curious....what is it?? Where is it?? Is it poisonous?? Do they run rampant?? :)
Good job!!

Dont tell anyone but I saw 'never ending story' with my kid years ago and loved it. Is that sad or what :)

i dont even know what to say that is so freaking cool. love it! wow, its great to see so much deatail. if it weren't for pictures like this one, i would never know what this looks like so close. i think it's amazing that cameras can see what our natural eye can't! i want to see MORE!!!

(as for the gate keepers on my infrared, it kinda reminded me of the ones in the never ending story... hahah! thanks!)

Thanks Brian
I actually havent sharpened it as much as I normally would.
The contrast and lighting probably give an appearance of oversharpening.
I'll send you the 64Mb TIFF if you would like to see it :)
