Great shot Roger. I like the way the focus is on the sea with the foreground ever so slightly blurred.

Seascapes can be both powerful and beautiful in B&W as this one is-- a very nice piece of work from taking to presentation. You've captured the post storm brightness with out losing it in excess washout. Very nice work. More and more I find myself preferring seascapes in B&W-- guess it's the near mono-tone nature of them. Cheers. Craig

wow Roger. the detail in the wave shows how much force they have and the movement in the tree branches is fantastic. it gives you a very real sense of the weather conditions. excellent lighting too of course.

As someone who still works only with film, it's very interesting to see what you do with B&W, Roger. I can't put my finger on it, but this has something, some feeling, that I don't remember encountering with film. It's a very dramatic image, very powerful. I don't think I'd have been tempted to go for a dip, though. I'll think a bit more about that digital vs. film thing. It's something to do with the texture of the waves out there between where there's surf...

Yes I agree, wave contrast is excellent. Brings out the fine detail in the foaming areas and accentuates the turbulence behind the breakers. Given the storm is still around, it's hard to work out the time of day, but the speckled reflection off the darker water is great, so there must have been some sun around? (unless you cranked up the curves a lot?). Composition framing with cyclist and windswept tree is also very effective, but not a lot you can do about light pole.
