This is wonderful, Stefan! I love the effect the desaturation and the crop created, as though she were pulling herself out of the dreariness and toward the raindrops of spring... the hope is expressed in her face! Really excellent - into my faves!

Do you ever open a thumbnail and then are so happy you did??? This is one of those pics that the smaller version doesn't do it justice. The look on her face and the power of each rain drop on the glass make me smile.

Becky - your comments make good sense, but I was thinking about this in a different way... My idea is that the cold and dreary surroundings is a necessary element for having something to hope for, something to escape out of if you wish. Apart from her expression, what I saw as hope in this image was the light on her face. It is possible that it was more apparent in the image I started out with, but so it goes. I think it is a good example of equally valid trains of thought with the same starting points.

Did you set this up beforehand or was it a purely spontaneous portrait? Either way, very well-spotted - I love the uniqueness of it. I was just thinking though, if you want this photo to convey hope, I wonder if some additional (warm) colour could be used? By expanding the midtones and taking some of the colour out, the photo is quite white and a bit cold. I do like it as is, but I feel it's not portraying the warmth of hope. (Of course, this is a personal interpretation. Hope could be bright green for all I know!) Or you could go the other way and convert the photo to black and white (maybe keeping the red coat in . . . good grief, my suggestions always sound cliche!)
Also, I feel I'd like to see more of the subject's face and raindrops. She's a bit small compared to her surroundings. Cropping the photo from the right may rectify this, if you feel it's necessary.
Nice to see such a beautiful image on a cruddy, rainy day like today . . . thanks.

Wonderful shot and perspective. I like that you partially desaturated this - leaves us enough color but doesn't make color the focus.
