I like it when you ask me questions, Roger, as it gives me a chance to slip in a comment under photos I didn't care to comment on in the usual way. You are right about big prints being beautiful from the longer negatives. I use rolls of Epson PM photoprint paper to print my best panoramas 22cm wide by 60 or so long. Beeeautiful! And while you don't actually need a tripod if, like me, you stick to fast film, you'd better at least have a unipod if you want to use lower shutter speeds (1/125 is about the limit). I get by with a unipod and sometimes I even get lucky with handheld shots at 1/15th when I don't have the unipod with me. But it's a crap shoot. Maybe one in three is usable...
