This is another one from the Grand Canyon. Right before the trip I read an artical about how to shoot at the Grand Canyon. It explained how you can get the star effect from the sun if you stop down to 22 and place the sun partially behind an object. So, I tried it and it worked. I was going to clone out the flare but some people said they liked it.
Hey Karen, This is a pretty cool picture. I do think it is a little too dark at the bottom but other than that its a sweet shot. How did your gallery go?

Actually, I'm sorry: I haven't been clear enough... I didn't mean that a crop would help. You are right that it shouldn't seem to come from nowhere... What was on my mind was more of going lower with the camera if possible, shooting up, and keep only tree and sky + sun in the frame, or at least much less ground - maybe a diagonal bit of ground... But that would also mean to use for example one of the frame corners to anchor the tree and such - basically reorganizing the composition based on tree and sky alone. Best regards.
Thank you Marc. I've always thought about cropping some of the black but I wasn't sure if it would make it look like I only took a picture of half a tree. Like the tree needs to be coming from somewhere. If I got lower and included more of the bottom of the tree above the horizon line, that would make the picture better too. I'd love to get back there some day.

I feel the top part is actually quite nice, but can't see any good reason for including so much black at the bottom. Regards.
