one thing i would suggest, if u really like monochrome, use black and white film and shoot.

Excellent composition and I do like the blur in the sea. Maybe your friend could have been sharper so he stands out more against the background?

I like this one alot. I live near the Jersey coast and have seen in person what you have captured so well on film. The subdued focus reminds me of the mist that was probably blowing (or about to be blowing) around. By putting your friend in the shot it gives it a very realistic feel, and keeps it from looking too much like a 'fantasy' shot.

I really like the feeling here!
How was the blur in the corners achieved, though? I suspect PS work?

Wonderful mood and drama here. Some stereotypical 'rule's broken that work very well. Wonderful image.

Quite a strong mod here !! I like it very much... The way I see this printed at best though would be witha less obvious highlighted area in the sky and with a little dodging on his shirt - simply because I feel his shoulders are very important in this picture. But great work. Regards.

Congratulations! This is much better than the original. Good work with your image editor. I must admit that the "technician" in me cringed a little bit when I saw the horizon, but without it, I think the image would lack its powerful impact. Very creative.

Hey! That's great! Congratulations Matt!

Thank you all for your kind remarks. I am very excited about EC as this is my first one. This is one of my favorites. It was originally shot on velvia but I really like the mono better. Thanks again for your thoughts.

A very nice example of interpreting the project in a creative and visually stimulating way. I like that you broke the "rules" and still came up with an image that worked so well.

Boy, if this doesn't express "alone" as well as it can be done, I don't know what does. The mood you've created around the figure is just ideal for the lonely theme. Very nicely done.

Hi Matt,
Very effective as has been mentioned. I assume you're using selections, layers etc. to make the soft blur portions of your image. If so I see a ring of sharp grain around Dean's head. You may want to blur those to match the surrounding area. I think it would make an already beautiful image even more so. Very nice!

This is very good--Dean seems to be contemplating the meaning of life, the inexorability of the ocean, lots of metaphors here. I like such photos (see my forum topic under Philosophy of Photography, about "too many pretty pictures") and I think they are underappreciated.

This image says alot... as mentioned before, the tilt gives tension and the toning and shading offer the mystery and feeling of the picture. Well done.

Excellent mood piece with beautiful tones. The tilt to add tension is a plus.

rather effective - I like the toning and the angle/tilt adds even more tension.
