The negative is the score, the print the performance. No two photographers would print/perform the same with a negative. I would have burned a bit darker on lower corners into the path, especially left side to even up with right side. Then lighten path to make it more inviting to follow into the mountains and sky. Though it's always difficult to tell from a scan, I would suggest lightening up some of the mountain/trees/rocks. I've included a scan retouched in PS.

Thanks again for the many comments.
It's nice to know that I'm getting to grips with B&W at last!! As regards the centering the path, I intended to do that. I wanted to give the impression of distance. I didn't actually take any with the path to the side of the frame. Maybe I will some other time and compare them to this.

Looks like you've got the filters and the B&W figured out ... the tones in this one are great. Conventional wisdom says that a step to the right or left might have made the composition better by getting the path away from the center of the frame. Did you take any like that? Is this a case where the rule was better broken?

Sarah,
I like the effect the orange filter had on this. Good Work! By the way, I wish I could get 5-6 good shots out of a roll of 36! Later my friend,

Thanks Sue and Reynaldo.
Reynaldo, these places really do exist!!! I'm very lucky to live in a beautiful place like Wales. The down side is that there aren't many well paid jobs or prospects for young people, but the scenery and the quiet pace of life makes up for that.
Sue, I like the crop.

Sarah, Sarah, Do those places you photograph really exist? Another beautiful, photograph. If i could, I would print your pictures, hang on my wall and listen to Enya, Loreena, and soundtrack of Highlander. Your touch with the thinkgs you photograph is just different. Beautiful.

Lovely puffy clouds, Sarah. I'm working up the nerve to try B&W, and if I do half as well as you, I'll be quite satisfied.
Have you considered a vertical crop for this as well?
