I love succulents - I've taken many photos of them myself...this is compelling because it makes something new - it isn't a baby and it isn't a succulent - it is something altogether different.

Re your question.

I have a digital Canon Rebel. I set the manual settings to the following settings (approximately - I have to fiddle sometimes).

ISO 100
Aperature: somewhere between five and nine depending on detail I want
Shutter Speed: 1.3 sec.

I usually find the flash helpful in these shots.

If you start zoomed in to the subject - you simple move the lens all the way out during exposure - you do the opposite if you are zoomed out - you simply zoom all the way in. Occasionally, I zoom in and out during the same exposure - but the effect will be different.

Angle and distance are very important but I have a hard time explaining them - you just have to practice and get a feel for what is going to create the effect you need. Children are fun because they move so the image not only changes due to the zooming but also due to their movement.

I will have to check out your portfolio later but I need to run now.

Carol; a really fascinating and well done work that I find vaguely disturbing. Maybe it's because it makes me think of cloning?-- but nicely done!
