Hi Becky, Thank you for taking the time to submit your thoughtful comment. Now that you mention it, I could go back there with a stepladder to shoot from a higher angle and eliminate some or all of the rock. Maybe I'll even try a 6' stepladder to get way up there. If all else, fails, I can try to borrow a longer lens to isolate the tank and red pipe. Thanks again!

It's not bad attempt at all . . . A few thoughts: perhaps try going back on a sunny day. Sunshine would eliminate the cool cast to the photo, make the colours more vivid and a clear blue sky would give a third dynamic colour to the shot. Otherwise, I'd like to see the elimination of the white completely and a focus on the structures instead. I love the red pipe. Is there a way of framing the shot so there's more pipe and tank and less rock? I feel the rocks detract a bit from both the strong colours and lines of the other two elements. To me it's not a question of beauty ('cause you've found it); it's about maximizing impact. :)

Hello Martin, thanks for your thoughtful comments. I was not convinced either that I had actually found beauty in this photo - I feel ambivalent about it (aha - I should submit it as a Help! Project photo). I agree with your idea about lining up the steps and red pipe - but this was about the best angle I could get because of a high fence around the dyke for these tanks. - Best regards, SteveR

Iam not sure. You wrote, that you want to isolate beauty in this enviroment. Thats a poetic way of taking photos. BUT, in my opionion, you have to transfer your intention in this photo, and I cant find this beauty, cause it seems to me very striking ...
Furthermore, if the stairs would hit the pipe exactly, than the composition would be better.
