superbly poetic and prophetic. during the day i am a child protection worker and this image captures the spirit of keeping bureaucrats like me out of one's life. i like that it is mom and dad and the child. i like that they are faceless and that the baby's feet are so small in this image. excellent idea to black out the background entirely.

This photo is touching, hits your sweet spot inside. Another picture which speaks volumes, without words. The dads hand, the moms hand and the expressive little feet.

I love your use of lighting, and the great composition. Excellent work and very original idea. It inspires others to be creative in their work. Thanks.

Very well done. I guess someone could say that the mans wrist should be shown but if you look at it from another perspective the mans wrist is the anchoring point of the idea. Either way good idea.

I agree with the others about the fathers hand/wrist but this doesn't detract from the fact this is a powerful, poignant image which will be much copied. I'll certainly use the idea if that's ok?

Delketed Deleted   {K:1632} 4/15/2003
Wonderful work! Creative, original and touching. I didn't originally catch that it was both mother and father's hands, possibly because the angle makes the smaller size of mom's hands a bit of a perspective thing at first. It would be interesting to see what this woud have looked like if you used the baby's hands.

Hi, I am trying to work on this type of photography with my baby son (well, now 11 mos.). How did you achieve this image? How did you make the blackground black....with PS or studio? I am new to this so just starting to learn.

Thanks, this is beautiful work. Very touching.

Ayesha

James Pratt   {K:1567} 11/29/2002
Nice idea beautifully executed. At second glance I wondered if the father's hand was a touch too large / dominant. My eye kept wandering back to that, rather than the childs feet which is what I felt I wanted. Quite how you could have persuaded the mother that she should have married a man with smaller hands I don't know. Or a man who doesn't bite his fingernails!

Anyway, stunning image and rather more imaginative than a 10 word announcement in the London Times.

  0

Marc Gougenheim   {K:5398} 11/27/2002
Yes, this is not really new, though I have never seen it with father + mother's hand, and for sure it is indeed very, very nice. Regards.

Alex Harris   {K:17} 10/10/2002
This photograph is so beautiful. The array of detail in this image is brilliant and the contrast from
man to child is a fantastic idea.
The strong and abrupt tones of colour you have got from this is really a credit to you.

Autumn Ruhe   {K:993} 10/2/2002
this is lovely- those rich tones are absolutely beautiful. i agree with gary concerning the man's arm- the sense of symmetry is a little off. but this is a great photo nonetheless.

  0

Gary Petersen   {K:383} 10/2/2002
This is a great idea and well done. It might be better if you let the man's arm fade to the edge as the woman's did rather than the sharp edged cut off.

  0

Elangovan S   {K:10675} 10/2/2002
This is cool. so touchy & elegant... (how did u remove the bg). Check out my portfolio, i have one concept shot and you may enjoy. http://www.usefilm.com/showphoto.php?id=22355.

Conceptually sound - mother, father, child. The simplicity in which or whole family structure is displayed here is the most outstanding aspect of this image, to me. Not too shabby on a technical level, either. Iconic.

  0

Vincent K. Tylor Vincent K. Tylor   {K:7863} 10/1/2002
Wow, this is too cool! Excellent sharpness and all of that, but the idea is a very unique one for me. I do wonder if it might have an even greater impact if the hands were of just one person. Still, it works for me...a good one here!
