The flower looks like a bird without alterations, and your edits really capitalizes on that. Not an obvious placement of the eye either. Great colors of course.

wow it does look like a bird!!!! a stork in fact!
does it have a baby attached to it? :-)
Ray, about your PS CS question. You can do the same I did on my picture on PS 7.
There are just a few additions from 7 to 8 (CS) Now, if you have PS 5 or PS 6, then it is worth it!
Cheers

Nice to make your acquaintance, Ray, and thank you for commenting on my kitty macro. Sierra is an adorable 10 week old bundle of joy. Now, as for your "bird", is the experiment that you put an eye on the flower? Sorry if I sound lame, because I am not real familiar with this type of flower. It does look like a bird! But beside that, the sharpness and colors are very nice, as well as the background. I wonder if John H. is referring to the unsharp mask filter? Anyway, very nice image! Donna

Nice. I know this flower. Surely one of the most impressive! Good background support. I like it. Perchaps the outline of the flower is little bit hard. Some steps are viewed! (pixel - resolution problem). For this one I have something that perchaps it help you. PS does not have this tool however the Corel Photo Paint have a tool named ''BLEND''. With this tool you can fix the outline so thaese stairs does not be on the outline of the objects. It makes a very small colour scale. I think you must try it. PS: What I think about your idea on my photo? Pitty that I cannot rate it!!! Surely it takes 5X7! Very nice! Your idea surely is except it. It makes my photo more simple and that in some cases is good. For this photo I simple have a port subject so I think the background with all these parts of boats and the water was something at the composition. Ofcaurse the photo is very complicate but personaly I don't think that this is something that is bad. Simple a personal style or expretion. Thanks a lot for your great REAL comment - critique. Very helpful and also thanks a lot for all this work you did to present your idea.
