I prefer the original sky actually - it leaves the center stage to the stones. Maybe a different crop and contrast in that case, but it is has great understated drama IMHO.

It would seem that I've unwittingly offended Mr Smith by sending my reply directly to him. I simply said that I don't always take myself or my work too seriously and that sometimes I just like to have a little fun with Photoshop . I thought the sunset was rather lovely, God awful seems a bit harsh. Anyway, as he asked, here's the image without the Disney look. MikeB

"Why not put them together ?" Why put them together is my question. You have a nice image of Stonehenge that you have totally destroyed with the god awful sunset. You have beautiful soft light on the stones coming from one sun and a garish sky in the background from another sun, what planet is this on? I would love to see this image without the Walt Disney sky.

Hi, again, Micheal..thanks so much for elaborating on your technique. We all create the best images that we can. We?re all trying to learn. When images are submitted here that are composites, or are the result of heavy PS manipulation, and nothing is disclosed about the technique, we wonder why, in spite of our best efforts with the camera, we can?t turn stuff out like this. We feel inadequate, lacking in knowlege, ability or talent, or that we live exactly where the good scenery and lighting ain?t, and if we were just able to visit Tuscany or Vienna then we too could take photographs like this! You and others who create images from composites must see how others who are less experienced might be very discouraged in their own work simply because we don?t realize that this sort of result is heavily reliant on artful technique out of camera.
For myself, i wholeheartedly support gorgeous photoart produced from more than one photo and utilizing PS filters and effects if i know going in what it is. It?s a plus when i have the opportunity to learn a thing or two from the artist that might enhance my work as well. The "about" box might matter little to some but it matters a lot to others and speaking on behalf of the rest of us, i thank you SO much for elaborating in such an open and instructive way.
thanks so much for the kind comments you left on my image, "Storm Warnings".
Very best regards: kat-

Very very good image Michael, too bad in fact this was PS'ed, imagine this for real... It is a good thing that you mention what you did in the About box. It is fun by the way to see how many people do not take the time to read that info :-)

Actually Dave the honesty was prompted by Kathleen's comment.
I've not used the 'About' box much in the past because I tend to be more interested in the visual quality of image than how it was achieved. But I can see that in some cases it makes for a more interesting contribution. I'll be more forthcoming in the future.
Since there is some interest in this technique I'll post another similar image with a more detailed description of how it was done.
Best regards - Mike

I lke this shot or pair of shots, the original lends its self to this sort of PS technique, with this in mind I have tried the tehnique on one of my own 4toes. I think it has turned out to be ok, will be posting the image later. Like yourself I may use this technique more often asit does work with the right image. Cheers Mick.

Dear Michael,
This is a very effective photograph, eyecatching. But I especially like the honest description of how this was done. Many artists on the web will create an image like this, and leave the descriptive element blank. The implication is that a creation is somehow lessened by conceding that this is not an exact replication of what was seen. An astute observer whould notice the obviously different angle and color of the light. If there is no description of technique, I would surmise that the photographer is somehow trying to conceal that this is an original creation. Why do that?
Certainly this is a favorite, well done.

This is really beautiful and a fine example of ps work. It blends so well together - nice work. I still have problems doing things like this. It never blends well. I think it may be something I am doing or not doing in the selection phase.
Anyways, beautiful sky and great composition. Great work.

magician is right, as someone else said..the light on the stones and the sky don't match at all..of course a little honesty about your PS work wouldn't hurt a bit and would help others to learn from your technique.. regards: kat~

Very nice image. The composition and exposure are right on. I've not been to Stonehenge so are there bright lights that are shining on the rocks to make them as they are? It seems the sunlight is from behind, but the rocks are very well lit.
