Sometimes there is a big story in a picture, but I couldn't imagine something like that looking at this lovely little girl. I agree: "there are no words for that". I hope she's ok now.
Thanks for sharing this,

Thankyou everybody, for all the kind words! And Yngve... hihi... I DO have a better camera now, I just haven't learnt it yet and have so little time. I'm longing for christmas now so I can relax and just shoooooot! ;-)
About photoshopping... I do love to make artwork and photoshop creations, but I also love to make pure "only" photos. And I separe them from eachother, so on Usefilm I only post photos with no or just a little bit photoshop. (Like cropping and perhaps colour adjustments, sharpening etc). Other, more artistic works, I usually don't put up here. Or if I do, I tell that it's artwork.
This photo has been converted from colour to black & white, I have adjusted levels and contrast, I have cropped it and sharpened it. That's it. Or probably a tiny little bit of rotation (can't remember), but it looks like that if I look on top right side... there's a little bit missing between photo and frame... haha.

You are really taking nice portraits and pictures all over, and that without having a camera I consider brilliant or anything. Do you do a lot of aftertouching in Photoshop or other kind of software ?

Hi Kristina: This is a beautiful portrait with wonderful story you put together. A very touching story and I am very glad she returned safe with her mom. As a father, I feel for that little girl; no child should deserve to not have a dad or a mom. I have a son, and I can see his constant joy and laughs with parents around them. That bad dad, if he was in the US, he would have to pay child support for many years until she turns 18. I am glad she is back and happy now and hope she will have a happy and successful life ahead of her.
Thanks very much for your comments on my images. You are very kind. The birds in the "Life is beautiful! Enjoy while it lasts..." shot are actually Canadian birds. They are big, mean birds and can attack you from above (yes, they can fly really good!) or ground if they feel threatened. Best regards.

At first I was going to say "why did you have to give us the life story of the subject" this is really personal info, then towards the end I realized it's pretty nice having a background of the subject, you look at the photo and the person in it differently that way.
Anyhow I got that little girl's life story beat... I am 17, found out I was adopted when I was 14 at the age of 5 months old. My parents are actually my aunt and uncle, my father's sister is my biological mother. When I was 7 my father's sister (who I thought was my aunt) slept with my sister's (biologically my cousin's) husband. My whole life everyone in the family spoke bad about this aunt (my mother). Can you imagine finding out your real mother was a person like this?

Sad story, great portrait! Who would have thought that eating a hotdog could be seen in such heroic light? I love the clarity and drama. The angle and lighting seem to me as if you are bestowing power on the child-- she looks not like a victim but, rather, triumphant.

A very sad story...can't say more to this, would even find no words in german to this kind of behaviour...all the best wishes to her and your sister...
Sorry, can't say much about the photo, too, now. A fine portrait....
I think you will understand that I don't like to rate it with this background. This is not important on this I guess....
All the best to you, too, of course

What a great capture Kristina. This is a real sweet image. She is a cutie pie and you caught here at the perfect moment - hot dog in hand and licking her lips. A real winner. I also like the angle of view here. I use it often myself. Nice range of tones and good light. You have a wonderful way of capturing children just being kids. Keep up the great work.
Glad to know some background though I wish the lille doll had not had to go through that. But I am very happy that she is back into the hands of loved ones who will take good care of her and very happy that your sister got her back. So many times it does not happen that way. She will be in my thoughts and prayers and I hope she has a very full happy life.

Sad and unfortunately not rare history, as teacher I know tens of stories like this and I notice that the children understand and sometimes suffer much more than we think, but they have many resources, many more than an adult, and they can exceed in a hurry these moments. About the photo, I think it's perfect, I like the B&W tones and the brightness, it show us a pretty and happy little girl, very nice and funny too, I love her expression! Bye Max

Thanks everybody for all the kind comments! And Richard, extra thanks for working on my photo! I know many people gets really upset if someone does that, but I'm one of those who finds it flattering. That means that it must be something special with the photo.
I like your version too, but I find it a bit to dark and contrasty for my taste. I don't know if it's taste difference, or perhaps screen differences? On my screen your version is so dark that it looks a bit like if she's very dirty, and the atmosphere feels more frightening than happy.
About colours from my ixus... Well, if the weather is sunny and nice and I under expose, they can be really nice in colours. But in bad light conditions it's usually crap. I am longing so much for a newer better camera... I have grown away from this. The only good thing is that it's small and I can have it with me everywhere. So, I'm planning a new and better one, it's just that it ALWAYS comes something between that has to be prioritated to buy... :-\
Ps. This shot was taken in colour actually, and I converted it afterwards to b&w. Here's a colourful bit.

You are getting some nice tonal range out of the Ixus, Kristina. This is an exceptional child's portait (and by the looks of it, of an exceptional child). I had a little play with PS (i.e. with my "Zosia" action) to see if I could extract anymore.
