I like your idea here - I've jogged through those gardens; it's a beautiful place. But your foreground gate artifact needs also to be included in the DOF, I think. Maybe it wasn't possible, with the distant palais also in focus? Perhaps if you were just a step further back, to include the full curve of the gate element, you'd have also been able to include it in your focused elements? Nice effort though.
