Happy Birthday Liz! 39 is a cool age-- been there for years myself;>) I like this photo and subject a lot-- nice shades of gray, good detail and nice composition. I do think the background should have a bit more contrast though-- maybe the equivalent of a light gray?, but not so much it would compromise the subject. The background texture does help as is. I don't know what a Peony leaf is but I'm assuming this looks just like one! It looks rather embossed and I think it would look rather good if you did emboss it.
Oh and btw... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
