Debarshi thanks for you comments on my photos. This is a good shot but light is too harsh, and the reds are oversaturated, could use more detail.
Regarding macros and making the background dark, firt you should never take flower shots in bright mid day sun, too many shadows. If you can manually override your camera, it would be better, use a diffuser to soften the harsh sunlight, you can make one of your own, if dont want to spend the money. To make the background dark, use a black card, or use the water, which was dark to begin with, like I did in"Pair of water lilies". I took that shot in a mid day sun too, but I wanted it that way. Most of all use a Tripod. Hope all this helps you to make better flower macros, if I can be of any help, just ask.

A beautiful flower. In my humble opinion, the photo may be enhanced if the dof were limited more to the flower, maybe f 5.6, and a tripod to control movement. Very nice color. Kind regards, Allen
