Beautiful shot Jill. They look too big to be a berry to me. Maybe some sort of vegetable that's why the birds are not bothering it. Possibly a fruit, but I would think the bird would go after it unless they are not attracted by the color. Take your picture to a nursery and I'm sure they can tell you what it is.
