Thanks Stephen, for visiting and commenting. Yes, the hawks stayed away that day. Unlike the day before. Check out the image beside this one in my portfolio if you have a minute. Thanks again. Andre

Hi Dave, I'm not an expert on birds by any means, but I enjoy looking for different species in the area and attempting to get some decent shots of the less common ones. Probably this time last year, I didn't know we had any of these around this area either. But, I saw a couple last summer that wouldn't let me get very close. When you see one perching like this, they are easy to overlook because they are not particularly flashy looking birds. But, when they start to fly, they are unmistakabley unique because of their large white wing stripes. This one was very close to where I shot the shot of the Hawk with the Seagull. So, he better be on guard. Andre

Thanks for taking the time with this comment Doug. The interesting thing is, I had a few versions of this one that I was choosing to post. The rework that you attached was almost exactly the same crop as my second choice. I understand exactly what you mean by the "too white" areas serving to distract somewhat from the bird. My way of thinking was that it was a toss-up between that and possibly a too close crop. I went with the larger space around the bird because I feel that sometimes I am guilty of not giving enough natural space around my wildlife subjects. I also liked the look of the thick branch underneath the bird and didn't want to eliminate too much of it. I still like both versions! I have so many other nice shots of this bird taken that day, but will probably not post any more of them because I want to keep a variety of species in my portfolio.
I personally don't like the idea of them even having a rating system on this site. I've thought about making all my images critique only. As far as I'm concerned no image is a perfect 7 out of 7 and this site even seems to have some images with over 7. How that is possible, I'll never know. Anyway, I just don't think any images should be given numbers. I never rate anyone's images on this site myself. Andre

Thanks Ania, I had a lot of success with this Mockingbird compared to one that I saw last summer. This one allowed me to take a lot of different shots from different positions. Andre

Thanks Gabriella, but nothing is perfect :) As long as I can keep up a pretty good standard, that's okay with me. Andre

Quite a descent Avies image Andre, but I immediately thought it should be cropped because of the large background hotspots and which also somewhat sort of increases the folcal length of the 300mm used almost like a 1.4 Multiplier.
Then the contrast, clarification, and high pass sharpening were all bumped up to even include the addition of a little catch light in this cute bird's left eye.
Hope you like it and I will pass on the rating to protect your 'Perfect 7' as it stands now!
P.S. Slightly different 'Presentation Border' also not that it is really necessary ...
