About There are only a few times in the 40 year lifespan of a ship when you can come aboard through the bottom. This opening is where, until yesterday, a 36 inch valve was installed. It saves so much time (and energy) to enter this way. It will only be open for a couple of months then the repaired valve will be reinstalled and we'll have to do some serious climbing to enter from the top.
