Absolutely not Roger Critique and discussion should be what this site is all about. HDR is technique that you love or hate its very subjective Thanks for the critique

Thanks for the reply, Keith. I can see how HDR has improved the image, and of course the B&W is a great improvement on the original image (which as you rightly say has nothing wrong with it). Sorry if my original comment seemed a bit harsh...

The background is really down to soft focus. I converted this file 3 times then made an hdr out of it as I feel it give a lot more character. This is a picture of my uncle who Im sure would not like it either lol but I went for something with a bit more grit. Nothing wrong with the original image as you can see but just want it to stand out.

No doubt about it, a very fine portrait. But what is this HDR look? Is the fuzzy background the result of post processing or actual soft focus? There's a strange contrast between the stark realism of the wrinkles and the dreamy background. Sorry, but it looks a bit artificial to me...

A nice follow up to the hands image posted previously. There is something about the clear squinting eyes the draws the viewer in for a closer look. Great detail. Andre
