Steve, the secret is to shoot in RAW and process to your liking in your raw converter (Nikon Capture NX, Lightroom, etc.)

The color and lighting in these Hibiscus photos are really well done. As I stated I just got my hands on a D700..I had to have one.. I traded a Canon 1DS, a 70-200mmL, and a 20mm f/2.8 and 200 dollars for a 1 year old D700. What drove me there was reaching back to my old nikkors and the availability of them. But I am seeing the learning curve for the D700 is pretty steep. i have been using a F100 that I really like so the basics are similiar .. but all the possibilities of the D700 is a bit overwhelming...so.. is there any secret to the color of these shots that you set up in the D700?.. o sorry for the long wind..just finishing up night shift here at work.

Steve, focus stacking, combining many images taken at different point of focus, is done in software or painstakingly with layer masks in photoshop. CS4 has the ability to automate focus stacking but specialized software like Zerene Stacker or Helicon Focus do it better. For more details, you can google focus stacking.
