Indeed the present zoom lenses with stabiliser are fantastic in zoom limited max. aperture given a short shutter speed of eg 1/500
If I see it sharply it costs extra money to achieve highest technical quality :-)

Mais oui bien sur, cher Paul.
I remember taking the shot at 200mm zoom and struggling to keep movement unsharpness low. The lens has no stabiliser. So your suggestions are the right ingredients. Seen sharp enough ;-)

Hi Harry, the idea is good, with the statue observing as well. That is an example of how a title makes the impression (on the observer of your capture).
Given the info that you used a D50 would expect the view somewhat sharper. The crop is needed however with keeping essentials of church architecture and probably you lost resolution in that process. And..less cropping at the other hand probably would show too much distracting things around from your original capture. So my idea would be increasing ASA speed, reduce aperture and shutter-time and use more optical zoom to get closer. Did I see this sharp enough ?
