I wish this was a studio shot, so I could have had more control over the lighting. Yes, I have done all kinds of lighting (Butterfly, Split, Rembrandt, Loop, Short, Broad, etc.) Here is the scenario I was working in...
Early 1900's San Francisco home with a vividly colored mural on one wall (blues, reds, and yellows). One south facing window with afternoon light coming through with no curtains or other diffusion. No possibility to bounce an on camera flash off of the ceiling because the ceilings were too high. The room was about 10'x10'...small and three photographers were shooting at the same time! No room for reflectors, lights, tripods, etc.
My only choice for lighting was my Metz 54mz3 with a Lumiquest Softbox attached for fill, and the window light as the key light.
The print is much much better. I find that a lot is lost with jpeg files and the limited size that usefilm will accept...although I noticed the size limit was recently increased to 640x480.
I will probably redo this image to change the toning, and then post the result.
Nice relaxed pose. The eyes aren't grabbing me though...I don't know if its her eye color or the lighting (DOF?). Have you done butterfuly lighting with a softbox?
