My friend, never let the camera see an image, always over rule what the camera is going to do, you command the camera to see what you see and what you like to capture, taken number of readings from different zones in such a place and selecting an average over all reading would give you a more balanced and even light all over this place.
Sorry that some images are so hard to addit after they been taken, exssive light in a major area of an image not just will result in loosing details of that area but it will also make it so hard to recover in the post processing.

Yah Saad - an awful solecism I agree (see my comment above to Michael. There is no data in the RAW file, so I evidently completely ignored the histogram when shooting! Note to self: "I must develop shooting technique and, for example, learn to underexpose in such conditions".

I am grateful Mike, thank you. A hard subject for a digital camera: the highlight area at centre contains no information. Still, it'd be hard even for film...
