About The P-47 was literally designed around its engine, the Pratt & Whitney R-2800, 18 cylinder turbo charged radial which produced 2,000 HP. It produced so much power that it was the first US aircraft to utilize a four bladed propeller. The Thunderbolt came into its own as the ultimate ground attack aircraft. With eight .50 caliber machine guns, and robust construction, the P-47 excelled as a tank or train buster.
