Ooooo, matrioszka (that's how we write it in polish ;) ). My friend brought me one from her trip to Petersburg :) In the countries of ex-USSR are many, maaaany of them to buy; here in middle Europe as well, but not so many. But you're right - I have never seen a book about it.
This one is so unusual!

I remember, my grandma has one of those... it's original Russian souvenir.. this summer I was in Sarajevo (Bosnia&Hercegovina) and I saw people on the street selling this souvenir.. i got "mad", cause it's not from Bosnia, but Russia.. it's same like u come to Tokio and buy souvenir of "eiffel tower", if u know what i mean..

Yes they are so old :) now they made very interesting and small ones. My mom has been given this to me when she came from Russia.
