Well, Avi... really, I should have known that! ;-)
But it pays back to somehow manage to wake up in the middle of the night, doesn't it? Or better... why not just staying awake through the night? ;-)
Enough radio broadcasts and whisky... and it's OK, I guess! :-D

Thanks a bunch for all the info and the attachment, Avi! It must have been really fabulous! So, I am only glad that you people did that trip and had the opportunity of such great sights!
The loght was indeed magnificent and you also captured it as magnificent as it was. These early hours in the morning have something very special, and that's why I wish to be able to get up as early some day. (Loooong sleeper, you see. :-D)
Wish you many many more of these fabulous trips!

It was very early in the morning. This was our second day in Serengeti, we started really early (5.30 am).. and had barely entered the Serengeti when we saw these 5 cheetahs on the road, right in front of us. we stopped our car, naturally, and kept watching them. Our driver said that they were out on a hunt (though we did not actually see one).. there were tall grasses on both sides of the narrow road, and they kept moving from right to the left, mostly hiding in the grass, sometimes coming out, crossing the road and looking on the other side. We would move ever so slightly, just to keep up with them..trying to make as little sound as possible.. and they were fully aware (but not bothered) of our presence, even kept glancing back at the jeep from time to time.
It was FABULOUS !!!!!
[I have attached one shot here showing 4 of them.. it can give you an idea of the surroundings and the light conditions]

The really awesome thing was that you took the camera with you, Avi! The rest just had to come this way, including my comment too.
BTW, what time of the day was that? Morning? Afternoon? I have the impression that I see the typical colors of either morning or afternoon on the image, but there are only small and subtle differences of the three basic colors according to the histogram. Actually it is only slightly sepia-like. So, it is stunning how little real existing hue is needed in order to suggest such an atmosphere.
Cheers!

This one reminds me both of great images the "National Geographic" way but also of oldies but goldies - those timeless images that caught the light so powerful and gently at the same time!
A pity that some of those grasses out of focus had to be in front of the finely detailed cheetah, but of course you don't start arranging grasses when the animal sits so gracefully and also in such a benefitial light. Its contours on the front part added vividness, plasticity, and that kind of special grace of the wild, as it sat there exactly at the right angle toward the sun!
Very well! I see now, you kept in mind my advice to not dare come back from your vacations without some fantastic ones! ;-)
Cheers!

I had a fabulous time there. The best part was it is sooooo relaxing.. in Africa, as they say, everything is 'pole pole' (meaning 'slow, slow').. coming out of breakneck speed life in Manhattan, it is sure a VERY relaxing experience.. I feel everyone should go there if they get the opportunity ! cheers, Avi

glad that you prefer this one Noemi. me too. as for the musuem, it is always there.. I am a New Yorker, and New York is the city of musuems.
Africa, of course, is a different story.. doesn't happen everyday.. got lucky, I guess :) cheers, Avi

In Africa, 'National Park' really means the wild, open savanna, parts of which have been demarcated and manned (by rangers) to ensure there are no illegal killings. we were in a jeep, where the top opens up.. not allowed to get down. Avi

Of course I won't ! :) .. for a brief time I was tempted to do that though, not to keep requests, but to prove my point WHY I did not choose the color .. but then, who's really listening :):):)
I will post a color shot though - a DIFFERENT shot, not this one - tonite. But that one's not for you.. THIS one was for you ! (and for me, of course !!!) cheers :):):) Avi

It happens nothing unusual) that's why most of the time real photography it's more irrelevant here! You might understand it has been difficult for me here...because it’s getting low and lower quality of photographers....I wish for better! But please don't upload color version of this photograph. You don't need to prove anything more than you did!!!! Cheers, Harry

actually, we were really VERY lucky. We were told by our guide that the entire Serengeti plains has about 2000 lions, about 200 cheetahs and 150 leopards. Out of those we saw about 20 lions, 10 cheetahs and a leopard. pretty cool, huh ? :)

Hello Aylin, I think you might be right here. This was one of a group of five we saw very early one morning.. they were out on a hunt. The group consisted of a mother and 4 grown up cubs.. so this one might well be one of the four. thanks and cheers ! Avi

I know how difficult is to take good images in a game-safari and you were lucky beacuse cheetahs are very shy; like the subtle light on the bush, tonal range and details are goodfor a wide aperture; what bothers me is the bush on the foreground and perhaps a better definition of the animal (again dodge&burn) nonetheless a good effort....take care jd
