Oh my... you have hit the nail on the head here for me. In Illinois, for years and years, many farmers will nail a fence up to keep the horses or goats or cows from roaming about. And when they nail up the fence often they do NOT use new fence posts... they just nail the barbed wire to the trees on the farm. And when the trees grow and the fence is distorted... then years later, they go out and make a new fence. I thank you for giving me a new insight... I need to go out and take some photos of Illinois tree fence nails. Thank you!!!
