You are very welcome, Stan!

And now I also understand what was going on. I cropped the image and saw that it looked better to me, but I had no real idea why it did. It was indeed those things in the background.

Well, sometimes it is stunning to me! You just remove something and voila! A stunning thing it is.

Cheers!

Nick

Nice crop Nick. the display case behind her was a little bit of a distraction. This was shot in my 7x10 office while I was sitting in my chair and she was standing a couple of feet away from me. The display case and door way were present in the backbround. I cropped it fairly tight, but yours is better. Thanks!

It is a good portrait that kept much of the character of the hirl, Stan. I assume that the timing was the keyx element here. Get that smile before it gets too "unnatural".

Forsome reason the upper part seems a bit "strange" to me for such a portrait. It draws too much of my attantion. I would prefere a really straight "in your face" portrait. (Attachment.)

The coloring/toning seems to be old fashioned, but this makes it more interesting since it makes the combination of skin colors and golden tones a bit more subtle, unusual. It also fits the grain-like noise. The latter ate up some details but still it works as a portrait.

Cheers!

Nick

We run a little wild and crazy in this tribe. My Cassie and Kaden are high speed dynamos and sweet as can be. We have hugs and great fun together. They teach me their made up games and we go from there. Always a joy.

A lovely portrait of your granddaughter Stan. I love the expression on her face. A little mischeiviouse perhaps, maybe like her granddad?? Cheers, Judy

Bop,

I forgot to tell you that you have a red eye and noise reduction right on the camera. I personally have never had the need to use them, but just click on the menu button and have some fun...

All of my Love,

Marty

Great suggestion, I had just gone with the 1600 for a quick shot. I was thinking that the tinsel was so bright as it was. I have not used the on board very much because of the dreaded red eye. I will give that a try and see what happens. Thanks for the help. I also got a Paul Allen 5,000 strobe from Robin yesterday. I bought a slave radio transmitter today on Ebay. Should have it up and flashing soon. Robin gave me an umbrella that fits right in it as well. He also loaned me a stand for it.
Be well, Bop

Bop,

Woops, we forgot our on board flash, or did we? There is a button on the side of your camera that will pop up the flash and then you can set your camera to ISO 100, Shutter 1/125 @ f/5.6.

The fill flash would have really highlighted the face and reflected off of the tinsel nicely and use the center sensor only placed on the tip of her nose... Just a thought?

Thanks Ray, this was shot in my office without flash. She is just getting her permanent teeth in and will probably beat the Christmas deadline for her two front teeth. We were having some fun while decorating the tree with the grand kids. Thanks for the great comment. My best to you and Ian.

A lovely little face Stan with a wonderful smile. A great tight crop with excellent details and tones and as Dave suggests, a model cover girl in the making. Nice work. Best wishes to you.....Ray

Thanks Harry, I shot in Raw but not quite sure how to use the noise reduction. I found the slider for it. I will experiment and see if I can quiet the noise. I guess I will try 100% for starters and go from there.. I appreciate the input. One of those spontaneous moments when Cassy and Kaden came in my office with tinsel on there heads. I ask her to strike a pose. She has some modeling potential and is not shy.

Thanks Gregory, she is my best friend when we get to see each other. She and my 5 year old grandson play hard and are each others shadows when she comes to visit. We had 3 days together over the holidays and played some games and went for a hike. Much fun. I appreciate the comment and wish you the best.
