I think that is as close to the moon as most of us will ever get. Very well done.
My moon shots come from my little telescope and a point-and-shoot in the eye piece. I think you got the sharpness right on, but what is more important is you had fun with your new lens. Michael

Hi Jen, thanks for your many wonderful words. Yes it is funny how we all see the same moon no matter where on this huge planet we come from. Yes it was exciting to see it in my viewfinder and focus in on it, and really exciting to see the larger detailed image on my monitor! I think I am pleased with this lens so far. I love your title "Silver Moon"... but "AWOOO!" will have to stay for now because that's how I felt... maybe I am too close to my doggies or I have fallen under the spell of the full moon... you be the judge!! haha! Have a wonderful weekend too.

Definately... a bulb shot would definately overexpose the moon. You want to pull the details out of it. Mine was 1/160th of a sec, ISO 100. C'mon Marty, try it again.... I know you can do it! :)

Brigitte,
Well to be honest with you, I did a timed shot using bulb and a cable release. I just guessed at the exposure. Maybe I should let the camera do the work?

Seems to me very exciting to see the moon this clear, a real Silver Moon! Beautiful ;) Be well and enjoy your weekend! Hugs Jen

Oopps... I have to correct myself here. I used "Partial Metering" for this shot, not "Centerweighted Average Metering". Sorry for the confusion.

Tanked - ohh no do you need to remind me of our stock market again?? lol... well, I think you should try it again. Believe it or not, on my first try all my moons came out grossly over-exposed, even when I bracketed up to -3 stops! At first I was like you... thinking I'll just give up, but then a few minutes later, I thought some about it and kept telling myself that old phrase we learned as kids "If at first you don't succeed, throw it out and foggetaboutit..." haha... no, not that one... but rather "...try, try again!" So, I thought about why it was so over-exposed and it dawned on me that it could have something to do with the light reading. I then looked up the 3 options I had, which is described well here: http://web.canon.jp/imaging/enjoydslr/part2/2E.html and realized that my setting was incorrect and the camera took into consideration the big area of darkness around the moon, thereby overexposing the moon itself. So, I changed it to "Centerweighted Average Meter" since I do not have "Spot Meter" on the Rebel and that gave me the proper exposure. Maybe that is what happened to your shot. Try it again and show us your result, please. :) Thank you for your kind comments, Martin. All the best, Brigitte

Brigitte,
This is a wonderful shot! I tanked on my 1st try and never tried again. This is a tough shot to make. And it's is so good it does look like a telescope shot... ;)

Thank you, Rich... not too bad for my first try at it with this new lens. But I have to admit when I uploaded and saw it displayed on "Recent Images", I had to look twice because I thought I accidentally uploaded in duplicate, but noticed the crop was different. How ironic.... our moons are identical, taken at almost the same angle. Mine was taken tonight also, about 10 minutes prior to uploading.
