Location City -  Brisbane
State -  QLD
Country - Australia   Australia
About The cane toad, Bufo marinus, was introduced to Australia by the sugar cane industry to control two pests of sugar cane, the grey backed cane beetle and the frenchie beetle. One hundred and one toads arrived at Edmonton in North Queensland in June 1935. Unseasonal breeding occurred almost immediately, and within 6 months over 60,000 young toads had been released.

B. marinus adapted well to the Australian environment and spread throughout coastal Queensland. The rate of spread was accelerated by toads deliberately moved ahead of the advancing front line. In the late 1930s toads were introduced with government sanction into about 11 sugar growing locations in northern and central coastal Queensland. After this date introductions were non-official. Foci in the gulf country, notably at Normanton and Burketown, and in northern New South Wales were started by toads being deliberately released by people. By the early 1980s the northern front line had crossed west into Northern Territory.

The natural rate of spread of B. marinus is now 30-50 km/year in the Northern Territory and about 5 km/year in northern New South Wales. The range of the cane toad now includes coastal Queensland, and associated inland areas, coastal northern New South Wales to just north of Lismore, coastal Northern Territory from the Queensland border to the south bank of the Roper River

Keith,

What? No liking for the southern style foods. Heck I even ate frog legs, that I killed, skinned and deep fried myself up in Illinois, which is a Yankee state around here... hehehe

I can see where a Wallaby can be a little on the lean and gamey side. Same with the White Tailed deer around these parts. I don't eat any now a days...

I do however like the squirrel around here. Makes for a nice squirrel, potato and mushroom chowder, indeed... ;)

And, NO! Is doesn't taste like chicken... LMAO

I myself get most of the murdered animal cuts of meat that I eat from the market as well... And it's all good... hehehe

Nice capture and very interesting about.
But I prefer the frog legs over the sugar.
Thanks for sharing.

Keith,

Yeah, My Canon will do a practice flash in low light, but framing is a differant story... ;)

I wouldn't mind eating him, but his legs are to small, so I'll stick with Texas Bull Frogs since they have some good meat on the legs... hehehe

You put them in a bag and then in the freezer and they go to sleep permantly. More humane way. Better than golf clubs and toad sprays. I just ignore them and shoot them with my camera lol.

Thanks Marty. I was lucky to get it in focus. Couldnt see it so used the focus light beam to get it in the frame. These things are good target practice. You dont let your dog near them. They are a real pest and have poison glands behind there head. They used to have a canetoad killing night. Not sure if they still do. I just leave them alone. I had a dog that killed one and it frothed at the mouth for nearly an hour. I gave him a tub of ice cream and he came right. Nearly had a dead dog. Be well. Keith

Thankyou Arif. Was quite hard to get as i couldt see it through the camera. Could only just make out where it was with my eyes. I relied on the focus light beam to see if it was in the frame. Cheers Keith

hahaha I look bad enough now Michele without having that for a profile. They used to have a canetoad killing night as they are a real pest. Not sure if they still have it or not. People used to play golf with them but now they tell people to put them in the freezer. They can kill your pets with there poison. Hope you can still sleep lol. Hugs. Keith

Hahaha Crows get them but they breed pretty quick. Crows turn them over so they dont get poisened. Be well. Keith
