An almost empty layout, vignetting, good toning, and a face that reveals an infinite amout of details, which then define the very mood of expression. There is some certain kind of softening on that face, but without turning it out of focus, and that's another things that fits the overall impression.
I don't know if the depicted person should reside on the right side rather than on the left. As a stylistic element it is welcome as it is.
About innocence... there are many ways to cope with that. The editors seem to move on the usual path of hollywoodian non-thinking, but it is a path too. ;-)
