Nice toning Martin. Like the sepia tones very much which of course work perfect with the motiv of the old train.

Mel,

1st of all it's around 5:00 pm here now...

Now let us get down to business. If you buy a Nikon I will come over there and kick your Butt!

Stay away from Nikon, because when it comes to digital Canon has them hands down...

The only camera I recommend for anyone is the Canon XT for a starter dSLR camera... Forget film for now, because you have crossed over, and processing for film cost too much these days...

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/371189-REG/Canon_0209B001_EOS_Digital_Rebel_XT.html

Now on another point, please e-mail me at tx marty@prodigy.net for future conversations, because this is not a chat room?

Marty

Awesome. Gosh, It thought it was night time for some reason. It's 9.48am for me and having fun with the young kiddies (Amber and my nephew) and my hubby is home (lucky for us). They are playing with toy thomas trains right now!

I haven't got flash equipment, not yet anyhow. When I'm back at work in a few weeks I hope to invest in a Nikon D60 perhaps. Would like to get a film camera too. I used to have a Pentax fully manual when I was 16, but that was stolen.
So for the mean time I have my pocket camera and a broken Fujifilm S20Pro. I am going to try to post more work as I find it (some early stuff on CD's). A lot of recent work was stolen when my laptop and external hard drive was stolen recently. :-(

Have fun whatever it is that you are off to do.

Mel,

I thank you for the info regarding vignetting and if I was a real photog I would have known that... hehehe

Now if your ready to get to work let me know, as I have made grown men cry... ;)

It's day time here and I am taking off tomorrow, so feel free to e-mail me in the morning regarding your work.

In the mean time I will look up you equipment and study it to make sure I give you the correct advice...

I'm pleased I could fill you in on that vignetting question for you. I promise I wont cry - I'm a big girl and can handle helpful critique. One can only grow from it. Have a good night, Mel.

Melissa,

Ok, Now I can answer your question. Vignetting was not done by me, or the program as far as I know. I just framed it with an oval and this is what I got... ;)

I will critique you images under a few conditions?

Don't cry, add all of the info needed to do so, such as ISO, Shutter Speed, f/stop ect. and listen?

I will look up the eqipment you use and see what the limitations are and then get back with you...

Marty

PS. I have some really cool Train captures on page 12 of my port, digital style... hehehe

I am a bit like you, but I do like to challenge myself to do a little bit more creative stuff with Post production when I have the time or the inspiration.

Vignetting is the oval framing around the image. Your Train image has a solid white frame. This is rather classical. Can be achieved with a filter on the camera (how it used to be done before photoshop and other programs came along).

I would really appreciate your technical critique please. People often are scared to be honest on this site and hold back or just don't bother commenting. Have a great day.

Melissa,

Well to tell the truth I don't know what vignetting is let alone, what solid vignetting is. I don't know anything about post processing, I'm just a photographer that plays about with differant things regarding my post work.

I can do simple stuff like contrast, levels and sharpening, B&W, Sepia and Desat, but anything harder than that I could care less. I truly rely on my skill with the camera first, then play around a litte bit with a program.

Perhaps you can tell me what vignetting is, because I hear many folk us the term and I have no clue on what they are talking about?

I figure less is more IMHO?

Thank you for your support and I will visit your site and critique the mechanics of Photography 101... ;)

Hey that's awesome, thanks for letting me know. Did you even do the solid vignetting in FxFoto? I have wasted so much time trying to figure out how to do it in PS elements. I need to get a book or do a course (someday). Happy creating Martin!

Melissa,

All post prosessing was done in FxFoto. A very good program on the cheap. $35.00 is all I paid for it. Much easier to use than any of my PS programs... ;p

Thank you my friend,

Martin

Wow, what an awesome photo. I just posted an old iron horse that is used in NZ. I love your post production work - or was it all done on camera with special filters?

Hussam,

This was shot with the all manual film camera Pentax K-1000... I have owned 3 of them and still have a great love for this camera. It was required for years, as a must for all beginning photogrphers by their teachers... ;)

Thank you my friend,

Martin

Stan,

I forgot to change the data on this. I used a Pentax K1000 film camera with color film. It was the first year my Son and I had a shoot out. I just bought him a Nikon FM10 that day. He beat me of course... hehehe

Really appreciate this one. I like the white oval around the train and the great tones and flow of the POV.. Did you shoot in color and convert this or was it done in camera? Thanks for the friendship and the dfun, my grandson will love this one.
Be well, Stan
