I love old bags, unashamedly delapidated and loving it, begrudgingly following you everywhere you go, little but later, much loved, abandoned then re discovered as flashy new bags quickly lose their appeal....your title suggests thermal baths and there I lose my way a bit? other correspondents have researched well, good work Roger, you are surely an intrepid explorer of the limits of your craft, to great effect too. kind regards, david.

Intriguing! There is an "english church" at aix les bains. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Aix-les-BainsChurch.JPG I see Queen vic made it very fashionable for poms to show up there after going herself for the spa. In front of the church is a big statue of her. Which seems pretty damn strange to me. Maybe the church and statue were to accommodate the tourists? Maybe it is a relic of the great jamboree of boyish old black rags at Fontainebleau in 1897 and one priests mum packed his bag, wrote his name on the bottom of his plates and told him to make sure his bag was embossed.... but that's just my guess.
