About I consider this (and the next one) as two of the best I ever managed to shoot. The contrast of the old house against the sky and the angle/perspective here are very favorite to me. But can it be taken to even more exaggerating levels?

It is really hard to decide which one of this and the next to put under the critiques corner. So I just left it up to random choise. But I'd be very glad for any help for comparison / preference between this and the next one.

Any comments would be very welcome.

Thanks a lot, Harry! Very interesting! I think that this was the website for Serbia, though. The "general" site is www.raiffeisen.com - if I am not mistaken. It is much older than 2007. And also very strange in its structure, since each and every location has its own raiffeisen which is almost a completely independend company. The connection to the "whole" is a very loose one. Actually each and every bank of the group in each and every location has its own products, business, instruments, etc, without any kind of obligation to follow some "centralized direction". This is completely different than in other big banks. Many times the individual companies follow opposite strategies and different business models. One could also say... it's a sympathetic mess! ;-)

Cheers!

I thought it was German, Harry, but I dunno. Never cared for that, really, but does the word "Raiffeisen" mean anything in Dutch? OK, "Eisen" is "iron" in German, but what about "Raiff"?? Schmiedeeisen, or Reibeisen???

Anyway, thanks a lot for the nice comment and the suggestion. Do you mean a crop like of the attachment? I must say, I see a "simpler", or even "emptier" composition, that makes the "airy" look more tangible, but about tension I don't know exactly. :-/ Actually I was thinking of including even more of the old building, and perhaps even down to the street, for visualizing the "jump" from the street up to the top of the building.

Cheers and thanks a lot!

Crop (hopefully) according to Harry's idea

Raifaisenbank ! Dutch no ?
These are 2 images in one. The crane and logo could be one, ditto for the old houses. I would suggest to crop more of the old houses, so it gives tension.
Tot ziens grote vriend.

Perhaps humans do like easy things, Saad. But not all humans react the same way to the same kind of stimuli. So, we better not extrapolate from our own reactions to others. Somebody else might also react differently to the available stilulus of having both buildings on the image.

And so, I can only take some image and post it, if it is good. But I cannot really expect any kind of specific reactions of this type because of the content of the image. I can only rely on things that are down to earth and listen to what the poeple say about details, lighting, etc. I think that each of us would simply find something else about for example the rpesence of both buildings on this image. For you it is the comparison, for somebody else perhaps what people live in the buildings, who knows?

Cheers!

humans by nature, they like ready made solutions and answers,I mean, make the things easy for them, mix for them the old with new,and immediately they will recognize the new,and then its advantages over the old, just by comparing,
Saad.

Hi Saad and thanks a lot for your nice detailed comment!

The idea of "including two buldings for comparisons", etc. is too constructed! You do the same more or less in your argumentation about the "balance" of your image with the shopping carts. That's too... calculated. Images do not work because of such "formulas". To tell you the truth I never wanted to make people "think" in some special way about the content of my images. They may think whatever they want - I don't lead them to anything special. So, why is a comparison of two buildings so special? Some people may do that exactly, but most of them will see something else. You can't control intrepretation.

However there are other very well controllable aspects like for example the used DoF, the angle, the perspective, etc. For these things we can say something definite. And it is exactly these things that decide about good and bad photography, not interpretations.

Cheers!

hi Nick, just few words about the concept of which is best?
as long as the main subject is a construction of a new building, the best photo is the one that shows as much as of the old building as well.
it will directs the viewer to make comparisons, and then reach a fair conclusion,my best regards,
Saad.
