I love ferns - with a passion and the color here is beautiful - that wonderful chartruese of fresh leaves in the spring...there is a wonderful diagonal element here as suggested by Christian - it would be interesting to see this taken on a slightly overcast day...

The sky was problematic in this photograph. I could not shoot any lower than I did as I was avoiding a road culvert in the foreground. Cropping the sky out completely seemed as harsh a soloution as the lighting. Maybe I will catch this scene again when the sky is more cooperative.

I think the predominent element here is the pond and the reflection on it. It opens quite a stong graphical element, a diagonal, well marked too by the sunken small trunk on the LL. It breaks the textural aspect of the ferns. This works well for me. But I agree that the open sky is not attractive. It could be cropped, but this would modifiy the proportion of the frame.

I think you have potential for several nice photos in this image. As it is, it is sort of unfocused and aimless. The large amount of white sky is unfortunate.
With a scene like this, where nothing naturally dominates, I would suggest getting closer and shooting individual elements.
