Location City -  Curacao
State -  OSTRICH FARM
Country - Netherlands Antilles   Netherlands Antilles
About The Ostrich is a large flightless bird native to Africa (and formerly the Middle East). It is the only living species of its family, Struthionidae, and its genus, Struthio. Ostriches share the order Struthioniformes with emus, kiwis, and other ratites. It is distinctive in its appearance, with a long neck and legs and the ability to run at speeds of about 65 km/h (40 mph), the top land speed of any bird.[2] The Ostrich is the largest living species of bird.

The diet of the Ostrich mainly consists of seeds and other plant matter, though it eats insects. It lives in nomadic groups which contain between five and 50 birds. When threatened, the Ostrich will either hide itself by lying flat against the ground, or will run away. If cornered, it can cause injury and death with a kick from its powerful legs. Mating patterns differ by geographical region, but territorial males fight for a harem of two to seven females.

Anatomy: The ostrich can grow up to 9 feet (2.7 m) tall and weighs up to 345 pounds (156 kg). The ostrich also has the biggest eyeballs of any bird; they are 2 inches (5 cm) across.

Eggs: The ostrich lays the biggest egg in the world; ostrich eggs are 4.5 x 7 inches (11 x 18 cm) across and weigh 3 pounds (1400 g).

Habitat: This bird is native to the dry savannas of Africa and are well adapted to desert life. Ostriches get water from the plants they eat.

Have a great day and enjoy your weekend, hoping your hair sets better;)) xxJen

Muchos gracias my dear Gust@avo, hope you like this tall fellow, did you know they put rings through their nose often? Because they pick and bite themselves all over, and lose their hair by that, looks very strange but the ring seems to help...very weird!
Have a great weekend, hugs Jenxx

I used to have hair like that. Black and plenty of it. Must have got plucked out i think. This is a excellent shot my dear niece. Fantastic detail. Im guessing it didnt want to peck your eyes out as you were higher than it and they cant handle that. I saw a guy go in a pen with a whole lot of them. He held a broom up in the air and they thought it was a bigger bird than they were lol. Great one again Jen. Hugsxx Uncle Keith

Hello my dear Jen,

Not so bad a 'hair day' hahha!!! But again maybe it is partly those Big brown eyes..that take my attention away from the hair :))
An excellent portrait of this really beautiful bird and I LOVE to read all of your 'about' for so much information on this X-tra large guy :))
