About Was out testing the new D300 in areas i am familiar with to be able to compare previous imagery from D80. The menu on the D300 is quite extensive and it will take quite some time to try out all the variables to achieve the results that suit me. This shot is pretty much straight out of the camera with a little levels work and some cropping. This shot is with "active D lighting" selected. This adjusts the image "in camera" for high lights and dark areas balancing the total image in such a way that a ND grad filter is not needed.....we shall see....

Yes the Active D Lighting seems to be a software attempt at increasing the rage of exposure. Although i find that the darker areas to be somewhat bland and i need to increase the contrast in those areas somewhat. But the bottom line so far is that I have much less PS work in the long run to do on average.

and not as heavily saturated as the old camera either... more realistic colours... it is amazing.. I did a side by side test betweent he Kodak DCS Pro 14N with a Nikon 28-200 lens and the Canon 5D with a Canon 28-300lens and the clour was well different

The exposure looks good to me from top to bottom here, Tim, but as you say we'll see how it handles the more extreme cases! Anyway you've got a great point of view here and excellent lighting and colour, with good detail in the snow.
I guess we're all waiting for real spring to come!
Dave.
