I have 50 MM prime but guess that wont help. Guess I will work on my 10-20 or 18-70 mostly.

I f you want good photournalism these are my advices: 1) shot in the early morning or late afternoon for good light and less busy streets (you know what i mean in India); wandering far from city center; because you must shoot in low light conditions I'd try a a good prime lens (if you can afford it) (I had a canon 18-70 and it was just average, do not know nikon one). Extreme wide angles produce some distorsion but many times is very interesting (look at this example by Oleg http://www.usefilm.com/image/1411247.html)
but you can get just the Nikon 20 mm 2.8 (about 450 $)
just some thoughs :)

Yes...doc!! I will remember your tips. Same thing I was also ponderring over. Wide Angle or my 18-70?

Doc which will be better to shoot with in busy streets of India? Any thoughts? Will the distortion of Wide Angle always good? what you think?

just take your camera everywhere, use a wide lense and be very close to the people
I've been to SF three times before, and really love it...jd

ohhh :( .... San Francisco is a nice place to grab some street staff. Winding roads makes it perfect in the city. Alcatrez will give you some nice Geometry and Light n shadows shot. If you get time ... go for some National Park. Summer is the best time for NP's!! Will miss you in East Coast.

Yah, let me see what I can grab in India. I never got opportunity to shoot digital in my native city kolkata. This time I will get hopefully!! Let me see what i can do!!

It would be nice but I'm going to West coast (San Francisco for a medical meeting) and I'm afraid I won't time for stopping in NY, but
next time I'll try it; I'm anxious to see your pictures from India, for sure it will be a good work, no doubt
take care....doc

Hey Doc!!! Thanx for seeing. You are always my inspiration and a true crtique. Nowadays, I can not get hold of much photos. Thats why you dont see me.

Yes, I am planning for india next month. Will be there for 1 month. Hoping ...to... catch some good Photo Journalistic shot.

Heard from Avi ... that you are also due with a US trip? East Coast? If yes... me and Avi will defnitely meet you in NYC and will have a day out shoot!!!

beautifully done my dear friend, love the crispy face, the excellent light, the mute colors (almost a subtle cross-processing type) and the tight framing; a very good approach to children's portratiture; besides that, very well presented with that old fashion-border
btw, I miss your work, Avi told me about your plans in India :)

I love the close portrait, the expression of the little girl and the perfect title chosen.
