About Since 1950, the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have shared a common definition of occupational health. It was adopted by the Joint ILO/WHO Committee on Occupational Health at its first session in 1950 and revised at its twelfth session in 1995. The definition reads: "Occupational health should aim at: the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers in all occupations; the prevention amongst workers of departures from health caused by their working conditions; the protection of workers in their employment from risks resulting from factors adverse to health; the placing and maintenance of the worker in an occupational environment adapted to his physiological and psychological capabilities; and, to summarize, the adaptation of work to man and of each man to his job."

The reasons for establishing good occupational safety and health standards are frequently identified as:
1- Moral - An employee should not have to risk injury at work, nor should others associated with the work environment.
2- Economic - many governments realize that poor occupational safety and health performance results in cost to the State (e.g. through social security payments to the incapacitated, costs for medical treatment, and the loss of the "employability" of the worker). Employing organisations also sustain costs in the event of an incident at work (such as legal fees, fines, compensatory damages, investigation time, lost production, lost goodwill from the workforce, from customers and from the wider community).
3- Legal - Occupational safety and health requirements may be reinforced in civil law and/or criminal law; it is accepted that without the extra "encouragement" of potential regulatory action or litigation, many organisations would not act upon their implied moral obligations.

Outstanding shot, Khaled. The light and mud give the man an almost ghost-like appearance, adding to the image of an overworked person.

Good capture for this subject. Your information is also wonderful. I will share a link to your photo with people who complain about how hard they think there job is.

The light is harsh, however it would seem to be that it truly shows the harsh condition that the work takes place in and tells me a great deal about the envirnment. A perfect picture is not always the best in photojournilism. You photo fits the catagory very well. Congratulations.

Hi AJ, that's really a wonderful news....
It'll be fun if we meet and go on photography trip with each other.

I think this is a superb shot, Khaled, and have to disagree with Kiarang (though I respect his opinion). I think the brightness in the background helps the main subject stand out. And I think the "natural" monochrome is wonderful - just different tones of brown. What an awful job - but what a wonderful photo! Congrats on the award.

AJ

PS. With a little bit of luck I should be spending a little time in Cairo in March - I look forward to some fantastic photography, if my schedule will allow it!

Its one of a kind Khaled,
maybe not as perfect as you want it to be,
but quick shots like this in motion can be
much better then the perfect still-lifes!
There is mostly no time to set up the pic
as you wanted afterwards, look at the latest
world-press photo...Great job and BIP! Jen

Dear Kiarang,
Thanx my friend for your sincere comment, that's what I really want from posting photos on usefilm; criticism; not very good, wow, great, etc....
Concerning your 2 comments, actually I agree with the first point regarding the light, yeah it's so harsh and not that good but the cause is that it was noon when I captured this guy working, and this is very evident from the shadow in his eyes and I coudn't do anything about it :0(
Regarding the second point, actually the man was moving sooooo fast to the extent that if I decided to use a slower shutter speed the whole man not only his arms will be blurred and I think that wouldn't be a good photo.
Thanx again my friend for your comment, I appreciate it.
Take care,
Khaled.
