I can see why you like the space as it does show well the expanse of the water--something that is always attractive. So, your idea of cloning the island over to the right a bit would solve the empty space concern while preserving the extended scene. I think that might be better than the closer crop as the crop may 'crowd' the men and the background of this tranquil scene. MAry

yes Mary, I was thinking of that before posting but in the end I liked the free room, perhaps my option of fill that sapce cloning the small island on the bkg is better but I'm not sure thanks for the comment and be well, btw you have an impressive portfolio txules

I really like the serenity of this image that is rested by the sillouettes and the colour tones. The out of focus tree branches are great and make a lovley frame or the scene. It is a great shot. I would perhaps suggest a different crop as there is a lot of space on the right with do not add to the dynamics of your shot. Maybe a crop a little to the right of the last tree branch. I think that would leave enough of the water to maintain the openess while cutting out sme of the dark and 'empty' space. MAry

Oh I see what you mean. To be frank, I was so taken in by the positions and relative proportions of two men fishing out there, with respect to the rest of the positive area of the photo, I did not pay too much attention to the negative space. But now you say it, well, yes, it would indeed look better if you could put a bit more space between the anglers and the island, but probably that would mean your having to take quite a few steps to your right AND move up front (which couls also mean, maybe, into the water?)
So I do not know how much feasible that would have been. Also, then, there would be every possibility of losing the out-of-focus part of the tree in the FG, which is essential to the composition.
Of course, cloning is the easier solution. But all in all, I feelthat this shot is quite good already, and wouldn't nitpick too much about it.
Cheers !

thanks Avi, I feel the image is not well balanced, there is a lot of free room on the right hand view, so the island on the bkg should be more on the right side; may be i should clone it into the right what do you think? jd
