About Trying to get the great contrast and the perspective/depth right here. Any critiques would be highly appreciated.

Oh yes, and I think that i'm just at the beginning for saying right away what to keep in and what to leave out of the viewfinder in order to achieve/enhance/whatever some certain mood. The happy news is, still there are things to learn, and so it keeps interesting.

Thanks heavens the cropping afterwards can be used as a sort of reverse engineering in order to be able to say what should have been framed at shooting time. (Almost historical investigation! ;-))

Hi Nick,
That's the way I see cropping being used as a tool. It is always interesting to see how moods and perspectives can be changed within the same image just by removing certain areas. Some gifted photographers can see exactly what they want in the viewfinder, but some of us have to manipulate a bit in post processing. :)

Thanks a lot Andre! I often do not understand what I find better/worse on some version of an image compared to some other, and so it's good to have some claryfication help. So the white space might also be taken as a visual hint for perspective, I guess. That's why I had the feeling that the cropping took something away though it added something else.

Hi Nick,
I think they both work well. You have a bit more negative space in your original that sort of provides a guide for the eyes leading into the image.

Thank you very much for the detailed and nice comment, Ahmed! As already said, I wonder of some cropping of the bottom could help it further - an idea that came from Simone!

Welcome back and post some more!

Thanks a lot, Andre! I am puzzled now, if I should exclude the bottom part up to the base of the columns, as Simone mentioned.

L'immagine potata osserva meno irreale, comunque.

Auguri e ringraziamenti ancora,

Nick

Cropped bottom off after Simone's idea

Thanks a lot, Yazeed! It was not very easy to get the right balance, especailly since I didn't want to weaken the strong light because it was creating some very unreal atmosphere - much like on images of the end of times. So I can only be happy to read that you find it good.

Best wishes,

Nick

Thank you very very much, Mohamed! I guess it goes strongly into some very existentialist domain, and since I am always interested for such photography I am glad that you like it.

All the best,

Nick

Hi Nick, Hope you had a good time at the vacation. I also just returned back a couple of days back after a holiday out.
I like the selection of b&w for this shot and how you have exposed for the shaded area giving the image a good contrast. Nice tones and detail. Beautiful capture!
Regards, Ahmed

As Yazeed says Nick, the light balance is very good in this image. I think you achieved the perspective you were looking for with this one.
