About I wanted to create a dramatic portrait of my mother and my grand-daughter (my mother's greatgrandchild!)and used a 1600 film underexposed by 2 stops (actually hoping for a little more grain, which sadly didn't show too well). The lighting is a lamp with an ordinary 60 watt tungsten house globe and there was a little light in another part of the room (also low wattage tungsten).
The relationship here between "big and little" is not only the size of human beings, but of age and youth. My mother is 84 years old and this is not a flattering image of her, but rather a symbol of her age and wisdom. I liked having her in shadow with the very new life she holds in her arms illuminated (symbolically) by the "light of innocence".
Difficult shot hand-held at some absurd slow shutter speed that I no longer recall, even though this image has just been made. Scanned from a (bad) print ... I won't be using that lab for film processing anymore!!! Very little adjustment in PS other than a clean up of the dust spots, (thank you lab...NOT!!!), unsharp mask and slight colour balance/desaturation.
The almost sepia tone is owing to the warmth of tungten lighting and my mother's tendancy to wear warm toned clothing and colour her hair in warm tones also. Plus the fact it is an underexposed image.
I don't know if this picture tells the story I want or not. I have not been photographing much as of late so feel like a "newbie" again. Also I have not used this particular film before and it disappoints me.
I am open to all constructive crticism...
Thank you very much for viewing my latest image. And this is the latest. Sharpened more... which is why it is called "Related 2". I didn't like it at all the first time I posted it, so back into PS and this is somewhat "better".

Hi Aniko,
I loved the colours here and the contrast between the young smooth skin of the baby and the texture of the skin on the greatgrandmother are excellent. i also enjoyed the lighting primarily on the infant, I think this is a beautiful shot.
Love Jacqueline.

Thank you Dear Dave!

My mother's face was not sharp enough, so I was not happy with it and redid it.

As for the nap... well.. I'd be most happy to hold you like that and have you slumber in my arms, but methinks that I could not lift you.
I may be 5'5" but I only weigh 100 pounds... :) :) :)

Hugs and Kisses Sweetheart~
Ani :)

Hello Ani

You have yet again captured the essence of the moment, with the doting great-grandmother's intense focus on the little one etc.

Hugs Colin :)

I liked it the first time and I love it again... of course, I didn't see what was wrong with the first one... the sharpness and focus on baby is what makes the photo... I want to take a nap like that too....

Kisses, young lady.

It is true... we cannot have everything in Life... But what we have, we must make the most of.

I rarely see my mother these days, though she lives nearby; and my 2 month old first born grandchild... this is only the 3rd time I have seen her owing to very sad situations (out of my control) that I need not go into here... Yes Life is sad.

Thank you for being MY friend.

Hugs~

My Dear Biljana!

Why are you envious?

I believe we all have rather sad stories of our lives... mine has been a bed a roses with more thorns than fragrant blooms... that's Life! :)

Love to You,
Aniko :)

Greetings Dear Riny!

You are very kind. And yes, I think my son and his partner, the parent's of my adorable little grand-daughter would indeed treasure this as much as I do. I shall have a print made for them with this crop, since the original was 35mm format.

Thank you for stopping by and being so kind as to comment.

I am rarely in UF anymore... I miss you all a lot.

I'll be back one of these days!

Warmest Wishes to you,
Aniko :)

My Dear Shirley!

Thank you so very much. Yes, it is a photo I treaure amongst many others from the 2 rolls of film I shot of my family... old and young :) :) :)
I have a really gorgeous image of a friend who has been a family friend for so long now that he may as well be a relative (lol) shot on same day under similar lighting, holding the baby. He is a grandfather and has grandchildren of a similar age. One could mistake him for being my grandchild's grandfather, he is so at ease with her! :)
But I don't want to bombard UF with "Aniko Heart's family album..." ROFLOL!
I'm pleased you appreciate the way I handled this image, my friend. I was not certain about it, so your encouragement is highly appreciated.

Hugs~
Aniko :)

Thank you so much Liz!

I've all but run out of my stash of old grainy films I keep in the freezer. (I mean really old films... they keep well in a freezer, but supplies eventually do diminish and they just don't make good old grainy film like they used to...)
This film, no matter what, even in low lighting & underexposed, won't give me the grain I am after... lol... I decided against adding "fake grain" in PS.

Your kind comments are greatfully appreciated.

Cheers to you!
Aniko :)

Dear Aniko, this tells the story very well. I like the dramatic lighting, and glad you gave us so much information in the 'about'. A photo to be treasured.

There is certainly the dramatic aspect, and also the wonderful connection between the two. The tones are superb, and I can see why you would like the grain to come through.Great lighting too :) Wonderful work.
Cheers
Liz
