actually, not neccesarilly menace! anything really!
I am reminded about a book of hours I tried to write once. Some verse for different parts of the day.
Godless prayer to changes in light, at the end
something bout the night and some word (i couldn't find it) about how many nights there have been ever and that also covers how many dreamers there have been
something bout slipping into dream like
being welcomed to a party without an invite and no celebrity, but as the dark floods in seeing the welcoming level stare of the high priestess of The Night and gradually her blue horde of cohorts and asking where they will take me tonight
but I never wrote it, but this got me thinking again. It started "Good Night"

I thought Auden had a go-

"....that constellations indeed
Sing of some hilarity beyond
All liking and happening,
But, knowing I neither know what they know
Nor what I ought to know, scorning
All vain fornications of fancy,
Now let me, blessing them both
For the sweetness of their cassations,
Accept our separations.

A stride from now will take me into dream,
Leave me, without a status,
Among its unwashed tribes of wishes.... "
(Auden, Compline, Horae Canonicae, 1954)

Nice one. Perhaps a little dark (can you believe I'm saying that?), but I like the effect of the luxagraphy on the cityscape.
