Tony -- Thanks so much. This was my first day at attempting bird photos. I plan on trying some more in a few weeks. --Best regards, Jan

Maryanne -- For some reason I cannot explain, this year the Blue Jays are coming around here in large numbers. Try putting a feeder in your back yard and they might come your way to visit. Thanks for your comments. --Best to you, Jan

Hi Jan -- I'm please to see this photo, as we were just talking about bluejays yesterday. We saw one at lunchtime and were commenting that it seems we don't see them nearly as often anymore. Beautifully composed, wonderful plumage.
Best to you, Jan.

True about them being "on alert" Jan . . . but they are not dumb. Seeing you around a lot . . . they lower their guard . . . particularly if you do not move. I have even used a tripods focused on the area I knew the bird would go to and a remote shutter release. The D50 is VERY quiet. Also - focus on the area handheld.....and wait. Can't miss if you don't have to wait too long. Good stuff, my friend . . . if it was too easy, we'd all have great portfolios worth nothing!! :)

Glinda -- I appreciate the kind comments. I am going to try getting closer by seeing if small increments of approach over time work. But not sure if that will do the trick. These birds are "on alert". --Best to you, Jan

Beautiful series. Not sure about getting closer though! We have a hummingbird outside our window, but every time it spots tje slightest movement, it tears away. No doubt the feeder is another lesson (will pose for food?). Lovely work, all of them.

Thanks, Michele. The trick with the birds figuring out the feeder is that there are s tacked levels of feed holes and as the feeder becomes empty the higher level holes have no seed while the lower ones still do. This guy figured it out. -Best to you, Jan

Thanks, Biljana. Roland sits by the kitchen window and watches me and the birds in the backyard. Roland caught a bird in the basement of our house once and only played with it; he did not hurt the bird. He is not a hunter. :) --Best to you all, Jan
