Hi Lydia,
I am actually a novice myself, maybe not the right person to question about these things. So here is what I know. CP = Circular Polariser as in Polaroid, almost the same you get for sunglasses. It basically eliminates white light. It is adjustable. Typically the effect would be a shot with a much higher contrast and deeper colours(that dark blue sky vs the white clouds). A real expert on these things is Joggie van Staden. Here is 2 links to some of the shots he took with a CP filter.

I hope this would help you. You can find these filters in any photographic shop.

Hi Lydia I also noticed some vertical banding in the sky - not sure if this is an artefact due topost processing on computer or if this is a problem with your sensor. Take a few shots of blue skies and compare. If it appears in other photos you need to return the camrea as soon as possible for Nikon to check it out and repair. Really hope its just some post processing on the computer! Joggie

Hi Lydia
Start by looking at your setup on your camera menu - try to set the enhancements to the minimum on the camera. Rather do the adjustments in Photoshop where you have much more control over the settings. One can increase the saturation in camera but it really is for those who wants print directly from the camera with no computer editing. I also shoot in RAW mode only since it gives you a larger colour tone range and a vast improvement in picture quality. Its worth the extra megabytes in gold!
When you do enhancements on computer, try to be as conservative with the colour saturation as you can. From the raw image, a boost of 5-10% in saturation is mostly more than enough. One loose fine details (bleeding of colour) and subtle colour tones when you oversaturate, ending up with large areas showing the same colour tone. Always compare it with the natural colours and try to keep it within those limits. While adjusting the saturation and contrast, enlarge the picture to at least 50% to enable yourself to see the finer changes that takes place - especially in the reds, greens and yellows. Hope it helps a little. Joggie

Thanks, Joggie - would you mind telling me what I should do to avoid the over-saturation, please. The D200 is a marvelous camera, but still somewhat overwhelming.

Nee, Stef - I appreciate honesty, otherwise, how would I learn? Candy coatings will get us no where in this competitive business ;)
But, now you will have to tell me more about CP filters - I am a total novice - I tried to find some info on filters on the Net, but it is all very confusing and overwhelming, I'm afraid - maybe you can give me the short and necessary, please?

Great composition and well saturated colour (perhaps slightly over saturated) - otherwise a lovely image Lydia. Joggie

Nice shot Lydia,
Very well composed, the long crop compliments the picture. I also agree with Sylvia on the gate. Just one thing. The colours of the leaves seems a bit hard for me. This could be the result of too much sunlight. Maybe the use of a CP filter would have made a difference? Im sorry if I sound a bit too forward here. It still remains a lovely shot. Well Done.
Groete, Stef

Lovely shot, Lydia. It's really fun to see fall colors from the viewpoint of an area where spring flowering is now in full force. Nice colors and composition. Steve
