About Ivy leaves

I am busy presenting a basic course in photography and was challenging the students to forget about the specs and superior quality of fancy equipment - the photo is taken within the mind first - the camera is just a tool to make it visible. To demonstrate the concept I used my 2megapixel Sony cellphone camera to take some abstract photos in a nearby garden. Made some minimum enhancements in PS.

What do you think - do I have a point?

Great shot, I like the leafs as you pop them up because of the vivid color against the deepers but personaly I could ask for a bit more sharpness! Ofcaurse you have a point and pretty strong one, personaly I believe that anything can be a great photo, even the most common thing if the photographer is smart and you are smart and you have the 'eye' ...and it is easy to say that, anybody that he/she watch your portfolio. Good one (lol...I give you 6 for that because of the sharpness, hahaha, I think it is the first time I do that bad rating)
:-D
Be well Joggie!

For me it is the proof: simple is a certain help to make a good picture and the old rules of composition of Da Vinci are still very relevant. In a basic course in photography you could not do better.

Hi Joggie,

You definitly have a point here. You prove the students that it's not the equipment that makes the difference, but mainly the concept, knowledge and experience of the photographer. Composition, and lightfall are fabulous.
As a (former) educater from profession I think your approach is splendid, effective and convincing. To learn what are the ingredients of a good shot. Great challenge and work, compliments Joggie !

Friendly greetz,
Albert Jacobs :)

hey that is a cool project, and i am sure your students will begin to learn the basics of what getting a good image is comprised of.....but then there is always the techno geek and they will be wanting the gear no matter what.....hmmm....that might be me....just a bit..lol

That all aside i am amazed at the quality coming from those phone cams these days. Your composition is excellent as expected....ha-ha.

I agree...it is only a tool, and you've proven your point with this fine image. Of course the details aren't as great, and could be better with a more superior camera, however, the capture itself is still great, as far as subject, contrast and framing.
Hope the class is impressed as well! :)
