Your welcome Jan... ~~GRIN~~
Just takes a while for things to kick in which is normal... Our's kicked in a little earlier than expected with Colin's sudden illness (June '04)... He had a Berry aneurysm (brain) bleed... 13 mths hosp. and re-hab... No chance of returning to work, thus, I also retired... ~~GRIN~~... We are a team, always have been... Main thing is, we are still finding sanity in the insanity of everyday things, so laugh a lot (best medicine available...) ... plus good old lateral thinking gets us from A to B...
The lathe may never turn again, (because of Colin's short term memory and slight left/right co-ordination problem),however, the lathe will be there when we move, ready to go if that time does present itself... :)))
Photography on the other hand is a better, less risky, proposition at this stage... Colin has no problem using our cameras... :))) and will add to his UF p'folio, of that I'm sure, after we've moved and settled in... ~~GRIN~~...
Life does change Jan, enjoy each day and as the odd hiccup presents, treat it as just that, *an odd hiccup*... ~~GRIN~~...
The best always to you and Nancy...:)))

An interesting and attractive image, very good light and detail. Well seen and shot. A while ago I viewed this image and it prompted me to shoot and post the image of my bowls. Now, I've copied you and shot my lathe chuck which I will be posting soon. You know what they say "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". Hope you don't mind. All the best my friend, Joe

Thanks, Onie-- for the retirement pep talk. I have a lot planned to occupy my time after this year is over but as the reality sets in and I get near to the time I am getting anxious about the change in life style and activities. After more than 40 years in the harness many habits will be tough to break and behavior to change. I certainly hope that Colin can take up the lathe again because wood work is such a rewarding endeavor; but if not, better to wish him (and you) a good life and happiness with many other things to catch his fancy. Photography is sure a great pursuit to trigger the mind and imagination. --Best to you and Colin, Jan

LOL Jan... Retirement will come soon enough... Takes a while to realise that, NO, you do NOT have to set the alarm...:)))
You will miss the routine of faces and places etc... find yourself walking in circles ~~GRIN~~ because of the *now what* hours... BUT, that settles, you relax and begin a new part of life that holds suprises galore...:)))
This lathe hasn't been used for approx 3 yrs Jan... Hopefully, one day down the track, Colin may be able to use it again... :))) If not, well, that's ok too... Photography, among other pursuits, have been a big part of his life so there are alternatives...:)))
Thank you kindly Sir, always appreciated Jan...:)))

Onie -- Kind of a tool and woodwork fan myself but never mastered the lathe. This is something I need to look at when I retire. (All this retirement talk; I still have to go to the end of this year before I retire). Lovely photo as I really like machined metal and this one has lots of character. Super cool shot. --Best to you, Jan

~~GRIN~~ Susie... The operative word is *team*... We've always worked well together, the odd hiccup, but that's part of the fun...:))) After 34 yrs, lots of laughs and mayhem, still get out of bed waiting for a *suprise of the day* moment LOL...
Thanks kindly Susie, appreciated heaps...:)))

~~GRIN~~ Liz... Colin, before he became ill, was always a non-stop dynamo... Every minute of the day was used... Outside work hours, from playing in bands, to photography, furniture, computer etc... I have always loved sawdust up my nose, so, was the *hold this* & * the 2x4 getter* chippee... We both enjoy creating and making... :)))
Hope you had a lovely break... Loved the approaching storm shot over the sand... :)))
Thanks heaps Liz...:)))

LOL Rog...:))) My grandmothers iron lace 1/4 bed has just come back to us from Bek... It will sit under cover, outside our new home as a small day bed...:)
Love wood... it has a special warmth and beauty, and takes forward it's past history in all conditions...:)))
LOL on the doubles... Being the eldest of six,I remember four girls to a room, bunk beds... A totally different world as to *personal space*, in comparison, for a kid today...:)))
Retirement is fine... Our's was early due to Colin becoming ill... The one thing I admit to missing, the laughs with workmates... 13 weeks will fly, and once you get past those weeks where it feels like *holidays* and move into the *no alarm clocks* stage, then you know *I'm retired*... :)))
Thanks Rog...:)
