Oh I love such encounters with deer out in the forest! A magical moment where the deer and you look at each other, you as the guest of its home. Thanks for sharing! You worked fast with your camera! Take care Annemette

Hi Kes, It's nice to live in an area like that, in such close proximity to nature. We are pretty lucky that way too. I live on the last street on the border of Metro Toronto. On the other side of the road the houses back onto a huge ravine that is the start of the Rouge Valley. It is a very large area and most of my Wildlife/Nature/Close to home images come from the Rouge Valley. Andre

Thanks Tim! Venison is very tasty, but it has been years since I've hunted with a gun also. this year i took a gander at the paperwork involved to apply for a tag and decided it wasn't worth it to me...but i still think about hunting now and then, lol.
I can appreciate your guide's true hunting skills...and in not relying on some super magnum caliber scoped with the Hubble to hunt with. However, I would need some kind of handicap, no doubt. Have tried bowhunting and was able to scare some deer. :-)
This deer is almost in my yard and is somewhat domesticated....they love flowers...almost any kind....hmmm, - yes I still think about hunting!

Thanks Andre, this is one of a small bunch that frequents our yard. This shot is an area where the "woods" meets the yard...so with a little patience on my part they will move into the open. kes

Hi Kes, Great shot of this cautious Mule Deer. You are pretty fortunate to get her without a lot of branches covering her up. Sometimes it works out just nicely like this. Andre

This reminds me of a time when i was up north with a native guide in the Queen Charlotte Islands, just south of Alaska on the west coast, where the guide would call all the deer to him using a blade of grass pressed between his thumbs and made a phweeeee, phweeeee, sound. I guess it sounds like a fawn in distress which provokes all the other deer come and look. So close they are within touching distance and like they are in a trance. The trance i think is that the sound is right, but where the sound is coming from is not right, so they are confused....the last thought they will have unfortunately. Would be a great technique to draw them in for photos too. I guess he was proud that he only needs one bullet ever to get his deer for the winter. I am not a hunter but can appreciate his efficiency to supply his families needs. The small wooded area in this photo sure makes for a great background and takes this shot out of the typical deer photo. The dramatic lighting is a bonus. Excellent photo Kes

Thanks Michele! Sort of a cat & mouse game with the deer. This young one was curious...knew I was there, but if you hold still they sort of lose track of you...and it came looking for me.

Thank you, Harry. Yes, these woods are often a photographic subject by themselves. On this day the deer was just a bonus!

I like the deer; metaphorically just perfect for the scene, but my preference what amazing me :) is the forest’s woody textures and lighting! Harry
